How scoring works
Points per race
Every boat entered in a race scores number of boats entered + 1 − finishing position. With 7 boats, 1st scores 7, 2nd scores 6, and so on down to 1 for 7th.
- DNF (Did Not Finish): the boat started but retired or didn't cross the finish line. Scores 1, the same as last place.
- DNS (Did Not Start): the boat was entered but didn't start. Scores 0.
- DSQ (Disqualified): the race officer disqualified the boat, for example for a rules breach or missing a mark. Scores 0.
A boat that scores in a race (finished or DNF) has a race added to its count. Winning a race on the water counts as a win. Cancelled races don't count.
Ranking and ties
Boats are ranked by season points. When two boats have the same points, the tie is broken by:
- more wins;
- the better result in the most recent race (a boat that didn't race that night ranks lower);
- boat name.
The arrow shows whether a boat went up or down after the latest race.
Direct and handicap rankings
Direct is the finishing order on the water. Each boat's elapsed time runs from the start gun to crossing the finish line, taken from its GPS track or entered by the race officer.
Handicap evens out the fleet. Every boat has a coefficient, reviewed weekly, with faster boats getting a higher one. Corrected time = elapsed time × coefficient, and the boats that finished are ranked on corrected time. A finisher without a recorded time is placed after the timed boats, in its finishing order. Handicap points use the same scale as direct points (including DNF 1, DNS and DSQ 0). The coefficient used in each race is kept with the result, so later changes don't alter past races.
Sailors and companies
Everyone checked in on a boat earns that boat's direct points for the race, once per race. If you were moved to another boat on the night, you score for the boat you sailed on. Registering without checking in earns nothing.
Guests, and people from companies that don't score ("Other"), earn no points. Company totals add up their sailors' points.
